The use of the vacant second floor office space for residential use is generally welcomed although being acutely aware of the potential associated problems of car parking and refuse storage and collection. The increased in building height proposed in this application is generally accepted and believed it may enhance the visual containment of the adjacent shopping area towards the sea front and Big Lamp Corner open space.

There is disappointment of the quality of the design of the proposed third floor which does not appear to acknowledge the modernistic aesthetic of the existing building  or say anything “cheerful or exciting” about urban renewal. (16/P/1957/F)
